August 23, 2017, Shanghai - SkySea Cruise Line, the first smart contemporary cruise line specifically created for the Chinese market, has won “Cruise Operator for MICE Innovation of the Year” in the 2017 China Travel & Meetings Industry Awards.  The awards ceremony, hosted by M&C China Magazine, took place in Beijing, August 22, 2017.  Since 2011, the China Travel & Meetings Industry Awards has recognized outstanding business enterprises in China’s tourism industry.

SkySea Cruise Line’s flagship SkySea Golden Era has successfully undertaken more than 10 large MICE projects so far in 2017, a 20% growth over 2016.  Recognized for its ability to tailor programs to tens of thousands of MICE guests, SkySea prides itself on being the MICE leader in the market due to its ability to deliver flexible, customized and cost efficient MICE programs on a ship that is ideal in size for MICE business in the China cruise market.

Frank Yan, Vice President of Sales for SkySea Cruise Line, accepted the award on behalf of the company.

SkySea Golden Era has been referred to as a shining star amongst the China MICE cruise market since her maiden voyage in May 2015, and has successfully served numerous MICE business partners from all over China and East Asia.  The 1,058 seat Grand Restaurant and the 850 seat Grand Theater on SkySea Golden Era, which are very suitable for large meetings and dinners, have become some of the most popular annual conference venues at sea.

Ken Muskat, CEO of SkySea Cruise Line, said “SkySea is honored to be awarded Cruise Operator for MICE Innovation of the year by M&C China Magazine.  Being recognized for our ability to deliver outstanding MICE programs for corporate clients and their employees is something we take great pride in.  Our shipboard and shoreside Sales and Operations teams do everything in their power to provide personalized service and customized programs for each and every one of our MICE customers”.

Medium size ships amongst most popular due to "tailor-made" services

It is widely reported that the China cruise industry has been expanding rapidly in recent years, attracting many companies to move their MICE activities from land to sea. It has become a popular way for many enterprises to display their company's strength and brand image through holding annual meetings or entertaining important business partners at sea.

Industry experts say compared to other MICE methods, cruise ships have a complete range of facilities, rich theme activities and the advantage of privacy so guests will not be disturbed by the outside world.  In addition, the cost effectiveness and flexibility of MICE activities on cruise ship are greater than land based conference centers and luxury hotels.

According to industry experts, MICE customers choose cruise programs based on a number of characteristics such as a ship size that can meet the personalized needs of their clients, outstanding food and services on board and a wide range of facilities for meetings and large group activities.

SkySea Cruise Line will customize programs based on where the customers are sourced.  For example, when the customers come from western China, SkySea will add Sichuan cuisine and when the customers come from northern China, the brand will arrange Cross Talk Shows and Perking Opera to meet their preferences.  This kind of flexible and efficient management, with tailored and considerate service, has been well received by MICE customers.
